About Us
About DSCM e.V.
The German Syringomyelia and Chiari Malformation Association (Deutsche Syringomyelie und Chiari Malformation e.V.) is a non-profit, national self-help organisation based in Marktredwitz, Upper Franconia.
Founded in 2006
On 25 November 2006, 14 affected persons and 6 relatives met in Lampertheim to found the association. They recognised that many people living with these rare neurological conditions lacked sufficient support and information.
Our Primary Goal
Our primary goal is mutual help and support. We all know how difficult it is to be alone with this diagnosis, with questions and with fears. That is why we encourage patients and relatives to get in touch with us.
What We Do
- Building and maintaining regional and national self-help groups
- Counselling and exchange of experience between patients and relatives
- Assistance with difficulties involving insurers, authorities, employers and family
- Educating the public and authorities about syringomyelia and Chiari malformation
- Organising information events for patients, physicians and interested parties
How We Are Financed
The association is run on a voluntary basis by affected individuals and relatives. It is financed through membership fees, donations and support funds from health insurers.
